We have had a
busy couple of months in physical education class. Following on from our
cooperative game and soccer units in September, we punted, passed and kicked
our way through October. The mild weather provided us with perfect conditions
for our fall walk, and the surrounding neighborhood provided us with an
idyllic walking environment. Over 130 Bassett students participated in the
national ‘walk to school day’ on Oct 13th and hopefully this
healthy initiative will become a permanent fixture on the district calendar.
Formative student fitness testing was conducted last month, and we are all
committed towards achieving maximum performance when official testing takes
place in the spring. We have just completed a basketball unit and ‘Bassett
Bowling Lanes’ are currently open in all grade levels. I am very
excited to announce that varsity girls tennis coach Ralph Dunbar will be
conducting a week long introductory tennis clinic for 3rd and 4th
grade students in January. This will be followed by noodle hockey and a jump
rope unit that culminates with our annual ‘Jump Rope for Heart’ celebration
in February. As always the goal will be to match our fundraising efforts of
last year. Once again thank
you for ensuring that your child is dressed appropriately for gym class. By wearing
non scuff tennis shoes and loose fitting clothing, the students’ enjoyment of
Physical Education will be enhanced, and our gymnasium will remain a safe
environment. Look out for any
new updates on my teacher web page, and let me take this opportunity to wish
you all a joyful Holiday season. Sincerely, Mr. O’Doherty
