What is a blog?

A "blog" is a Web log.  It is an Online journal for students.  Students can post pictures, classwork, documents, and much more.

Is it secure?
With all the negative press lately about blogs, I wanted to be sure to clarify that our classroom blogs are located on a secure site.  Our Blogs have an “advanced access management system”. This just means that they allow students to publish in a secure and private environment that is restricted to registered users.  Only members of a teacher's blog community, can log onto a teacher blog.  The student work is visible to anyone, but only members can post to the blogs.  Please do not confuse unsupervised blogging spaces with the educational web logs we are creating.

We will conduct guided reading book discussions through our secure classroom blog.  We will also continue to learn together by using our classroom blog to share ideas in science, social studies, and math!!

Please remember that this fun new technology is another tool we will use in the classroom to learn new things together. It is very important that we use this learning tool in an appropriate manner.  When you write with paper and pencil, you take ownership of what you produce.  Our classroom blog is no different.  Students will be responsible for posting any comment or response.  Use our blog wisely.  If you wouldn't put it on paper to turn into the teacher for a grade, you should not post it!
