BIENVENIDOS A LA CLASE DE ESPANOL.

BIENVENUE A LA CLASSE DE FRANCAIS.

Classroom Goals and Expectations

For Mrs. Grossman's Classes

Respect one another's rights, especially their right to a meaningful education.

Everyone in this classroom has the right to be involved in the educational process without interference.  You have the right to verbal expression that does not interfere with others. All Foreign Language students have the right to a quiet classroom so that they may concentrate on the new sounds and vocabulary being presented to them.  The Westlake Board of Education has "zero tolerance" of disruptive or inappropriate behavior, language, noise, negative comments, and questions that distract  the lesson of the moment.  Threatening or intimidating remarks by any  student in any classroom are not tolerated. Remember that courtesy to others is extremely important in many countries of the world. Personal concerns or questions that cannot be answered briefly in class or that a student wishes to discuss further must  be discussed with Mrs. Grossman at the end of the period.

Follow your responsibilities in this classroom.

Use self-discipline and follow the rules of our classroom.  You have a responsibility   to complete the course of study of this class to the best of your ability. You are expected to participate in the activities we have planned daily.  Come to class on time and be prepared.  You are required to bring your textbook, folder, pen or pencil to class daily.  You should not plan to borrow materials from someone in class. Please have your textbook covered by Friday of this week. Keep your textbook in good condition so that you will not be charged for any damage at the end of the semester or school year.. You are responsible for the textbook issued to you.

Objects that are used as toys are not permitted in our classroom.  They will be taken and turned into the office.

Respect school property.

We are in this classroom as a group or "family".  Let's keep it in good shape.  You are not permitted to eat, drink or chew gum.  You may not leave your seat or write on the blackboard  without permission. When the cold season descends upon us, prepare a supply of kleenex at the beginning of class. Sharpen your pencils before the final tone sounds. Save your throw-away materials until it is time to leave.  Please do not touch nor take the equipment  or property of another student, Mrs. Grossman, or the school.  Remember that this classroom is used by other classroom teachers and students, too. Please do not take any materials that belong to them.

Homework and Makeup Responsibilities

Students are expected to turn in their completed homework at the beginning of class.  Written or oral homework will be assigned on a regular basis (daily as much as possible).  A major project will be assigned for each grading period.  In accordance with our building policy, students will have one night for each day absent to makeup any missing assignment upon their return to school.  Grades  and missing assignments are available on-line through Mrs. Grossman's website.

Makeup quizzes and tests will be available in the library for them to take within a reasonable length of time. It is the responsibility of the student to follow through on the makeup of their homework and quizzes/tests.  Any work not made up will result in a "0" being recorded for that assignment.

Quizzes and tests

Foreign language should be studied  on a regular basis.  Cheating will not be tolerated in any form and will result in a 0 for that quiz or test.  There will be oral and written evaluation  of our work in the foreign language.

Character education

Throughout our class we will be discussing the importance of  character education and its traits such as  respect for others  and responsibility.  If necessary, students may be required  to meet with me before school to work one on one on disruptive behavior in place of demerits.  If  disruptive behavior continues, demerits will be issued,  calls will be made home or students will be asked to leave the classroom and report to the assistant principal's office.

To further promote responsible choices in our classroom, we will be studying important individuals from our foreign country who exhibit proper character.

PLEASE REVIEW THESE GOALS AND EXPECTATIONS OF OUR CLASS AT HOME AND SIGN THE LAST PAGE  OF THIS FORM.  STUDENTS SHOULD RETURN THE SIGNED PAGE  TO MRS. GROSSMAN BY FRIDAY OF THIS WEEK.  OTHERWISE, A CLASSROOM DEMERIT WILL BE ISSUED TO THEM.

GRACIAS AND MERCI!   LOOKING FORWARD TO A GREAT SEMESTER!
