LAB SAFETY RULES

The rules in school labs are as follows:

1.     Know all safety rules and the emergency procedure for each rule.

2.     Read the experiment before you begin it, and then read it again.

3.     No horseplay is ever allowed in a lab.

4.     Never eat or drink in the lab.

5.     Clear your table of books and binders.

6.     Never use mouth suction to extract liquids from lab equipment.

7.     Do not touch your face or other exposed skin after touching chemicals.

8.     Always wear OSHA approved safety goggles.

9.     Pull back any loose hair from your face before beginning experiments.

10.   Wear shoes that cover the feet.

11.   Wear long socks that cover the ankles.

12.   Wear long pants that cover the legs.

13.   Use caution when using burners or heating plates in the lab.

14.   Be sure to turn off any equipment when you are done using it.

15.   Rinse out all glassware and leave it to dry on a paper towel next to the sink.

16.   Never handle broken glass. If a piece of glassware breaks, notify me immediately and I will dispose of it.

17.   Never use chipped glassware.

18.   Always wipe surfaces clean after conducting experiments.

19.   Immediately report all injuries to the teacher.
