LESSON 3

Tracking Shadows notes

Apparent Motion of the Sun Across the Sky:

1.        The sun appears to move across the sky as a result of the Earth’s west to east spin – or rotation – on its own axis.

2.        The apparent motion is due to Earth’s counterclockwise rotation on it axis (from the perspective of the North Pole).

3.        Counterclockwise makes the Sun appear to move across the sky in a clockwise fashion (east to west).

4.        Night results as Earth rotates away from the Sun.

5.        Daylight “breaks” again as Earth completes its rotation.
