What Happens When Substances
Are Mixed With Water?

1. Take substances around you (sugar, salt, pepper, etc) and sketch and describe what happens when these different substances are mixed with water.
2. A solution is a
homogeneous mixture of a solvent and solute. A solute is the substance
that dissolves in a solvent. Solutes may be solids, liquids, or gases. A solvent
is the substance in a solution that dissolves the solute. With that in mind,
identify the solutions to the substances above.
3. Make a chart identifying the
solution, solvent and solute for 10 substances that are available in your
everyday life.
