Lesson
3 notes
1. rotation: Earth’s west to east spin
2. axis: an imaginary line that
extends from the North Pole to the South Pole.
3. solar noon: when the shadow is
shortest, the Sun is at its highest point in the sky.
4. When the shadow is shortest,
the Sun is at its highest point in the sky.
5. horizon: the plane that extends
from you eye to the edge of the Earth.
6. angular separation: the angle between lines
originating from the eye of the observer toward two objects. This is the
angular separation between the Sun’s apparent position in the sky and the
horizon.
7. The Earth’s counterclockwise
rotation make the Sun appear to move across the sky in
a clockwise fashion (east to west).
8. Night results as Earth
rotates away from the Sun, and daylight “breaks” again as Earth completes its
rotation.
