HYPOTHESES Practice Corrections

Read the question and construct a hypothesis for that query.

1.    How many students will receive 90% on their Quiz #1 in Mrs. Vontroba’s science class?

2.    Will the students sitting in the sun in the back row of room 122 grow taller because they are sitting in the sun?

They will not get 0 % they will only get taner, because the sun does not make you grow.

If there are students sitting in the sun in the back row, then they will grow 3 cm within one month because the sun produces energy for growth. I used ‘if’, ‘then’, and ‘because’ and my guess is measurable (3cm).

3.    Does insomnia stunt your growth?

If someone has insomnia for a week, then the person will stop growing for 3 million years, because he doesn’t have sleep.

4.    What ingredients put into mashed potatoes affect the flavor of the dish?

If you put salt and butter in there, then it changes the taste because both got strong flavors.

If butter and salt are added to mashed potatoes, then the taste buds on the tongue will determine sweetness from the butter and salty from the salt because the tongue is where flavors are delineated.

5.    If clouds block the sun’s rays, why is it still light outside on a cloudy day?

If it is 90% cloudy then there is still light because of 10% light from the moon.

If it is 90% cloudy and still light outside, then 35% of that light is coming from the moon because the moon is in the sky reflecting sun light 24 hrs. a day.

6.    Create a question (that you do not know the answer to) and write a hypothesis for that question.
