Eighth Grade
Science Course: Mrs. Kahler
Overview:

Eighth
Grade Science is an Integrated Science Course. This course will consist of
three major units of study. We will commence with an Investigation Unit. This unit of study entails reviewing and enhancing
skills using Metric Measurements, Scientific Process, as well as, producing and
interpreting data tables and various types of graphs.

Our
second major unit of study will involve an introduction to chemistry. This
component of the curriculum will be called Properties
of Matter. Within this study we will examine the structure of atoms,
chemical reactions and the principles of conservation of energy and mass. This
section of the course of study will serve as a spring board for ninth grade
Physical Science class.
Our third major unit of study will be
referred to as Earth in Space. This particular unit will allow us to explore
the composition of the universe, the solar system, the Sun and earth. This unit of study lends itself to researching
individual areas of interests that may include The International Space Station,
current opinions concerning planets, space exploration, debate topics and much
more!

Grades are based upon the following:
Absences: If you are unable to attend class, it is your
responsibility to see me for your make up materials. Please see me before class begins or after
class. You will be given all assignments
for the week on Monday and all assignments will be posted to our Blue Team
Homework page. You may need to pick up
in person, any handouts/labs that you may have missed during your absence.
Materials: You will need the following materials daily:
Pen/pencil
Science Binder
Record Sheet: to record daily homework
assignments and grades
Additional
supplies you may need throughout the year include a flash drive, ruler,
calculator, graph paper& colored markers/pencils.
