1.        Why did we win this war?

·         The Continental army had better leaders than Britain. 

·         Washington learned from his mistakes. 

·         We received help from foreign countries.  We had knowledge of the land

·          The American soldiers had motivation to win this war

 

2.       What were the terms of the Treaty of Paris, 1783?

 

·         America would be independent

·         Our borders would expand to Florida in the south, Mississippi to the west, and Canada to the North

·         America would have access to Canadian waters for fishing

·         America and England had to pay the debts from the war

·         The British had to release all captured slaves

·         Americans had to return Loyalist’s property

 

3.       What were the costs of the war?

 

·         $27,000,000 debt

·         25,700 killed 1400 missing

·         8,200 wounded

·         Many loyalists left the country

 

4.       What were the 3 post war issues that needed to be dealt with?

 

·         Americans called for Religious Freedom

·         Slavery caused conflict

·         America didn’t know how to shape their national government – a republic

 

5.       What is free enterprise and what are some basic tenents of it?

 

·         A system that was freely base on choices of individual consumers – the market

Tenents:

·         Property owned by individuals

·         Government protects private property

·         Competition keeps prices down  and improves goods

·         Individuals decide what to buy

·         Profits motivated by business people
