Blackburn and Jared Wolfert WINGS REFERRAL PERIOD The Westlake City School District provides two opportunities each year for teachers and parents of students in grades K-12 to make referrals for possible gifted identification according to the criteria set forth in House Bill 282. The referral periods take place during the months of October and February. Packets of information and referral forms can be obtained from the main office in each building. For this semester’s testing period, referral forms need to be completed and returned to the building’s main office by February 19, 2010. Questions can be directed to the building principal or to the coordinator of gifted services, Susan Forbes (250-1269). Career
Day planned for Friday, May 21, 2010 PARENTS:
There is still time while a few openings remain for you to volunteer
for Parkside’s Sixth Grade Career Day to be held on the morning of May 21, 2010. If you love your work and would like to
share what you do with our students, please contact Joan Jerome to reserve
your spot. Presenters will speak for about 9 minutes to each of
our 12 sixth grade classes in rotation.
Students love to hear about how you chose your work, what you like
about what you do and the subjects in school that help you in your work. Call or email Joan Jerome today at (440) 250-1197 or

TALENT SEARCH It is once again time to register for the 2009 Midwest Academic Talent Search for young students. Fifth and Sixth grade students who have scored in the 97th percentile or above on their most recent nationally-normed, standardized achievement, aptitude or abilities test are eligible to register to take the Explore test. If there are no achievement scores for your child within the last three years and you feel your child would qualify, a parent nomination form is available.
The Explore test will be administered on Saturday, January 23, 2010 or Saturday, February 20, 2010. The Explore Test ($59.00) is a multiple-choice test developed to measure achievement in English, Mathematics, Reading and Science Reasoning. Benefits include: 1. Students get practice on a test that previews SAT, ACT. 2. Academically counseling designed for gifted students. 3. Receive lots of mail on Northwestern and other colleges.
If you feel that your
child would benefit from taking this test, please know that you are
responsible for registering your child. A limited number of applications are
available in the Guidance Office from Mrs. Joan Jerome. PAPER APPLICATIONS
