5th
grade: Digital Photography – students learned about the Rule of
Thirds. We call it ‘move it from the middle’.
Students focused on taking pictures that captured one or two of the 7
Elements of Art. They also learned how
to use the editing software Picassa to make a good
picture even better. Abstract Monochromatic Paintings – students are learning about
Value, Tinting, Shading, mixing colors, & proper painting techniques. 3-D
Layered Watercolor Resist – Student learned about
Background, Middle Ground & Foreground. We reviewed 1 point perspective
and how to draw things keeping that in mind. Students created an animal and a
habitat, outlined with crayons, then painted using watercolor techniques of
wet washing and dry brushing. Oil Pastel “Interest” - Using oil pastels, students
created a work of art that showed an object of interest drawn in a visually
interesting way, filled in with oil pastels keeping in mind the use of warm
colors & cool colors, and learning about negative space and positive
space. One Point Perspective = learning to create
block letters that look like they are shooting out 3 D (using one point
perspective) 6th
grade: Animal Textures with
Oil Pastels – Students learned how to draw a realistic animal. They learned how to layer different values
and colors of oil pastels to create a fur-type texture. Impressionism Paintings - Students are learning about Claude Monet, the father of
Impressionism. Students will learn how
to mimic a master of Impressionism. Digital Photography – Students are
learning how to use different features of a digital camera (gridlines, Rule
of Thirds, flash, deleting, shooting mode, etc.). Students are capturing the
effects of colored ink being dispersed through water. Linoleum Block Printing / Zentangles - Students are learning the proper technique as to how to
carve into a piece of linoleum to create a print. Students are learning how to prepare and
roll the ink to create a good quality print.
The print will be stamped to create a Zentagle
design. One Point
Perspective - Building off what they learned last year, students are
creating a hallway using one point perspective. |
