Mr. Curtis:  Rules and Expectations

Class requirements:

·         Text

·         Three ring binder/organizer and paper

·         Pencil or pen

Grading Policy and Extra Credit:

·         Extra credit opportunities may afforded during the course of each quarter as determined by the teacher.

·         Your grades will be posted online.  You will be expected to regularly check online to determine your progress.

·         Late assignments may be turned in for half credit. All assignments (unless otherwise noted) are due at the beginning of class, any assignment turned in after I collect your work will be considered late.

·         Any assignment, quiz, or test that is missed during an unexcused absence will not be accepted for credit.  Make-up opportunities only apply to excused absences.

·         When a student cuts class, any missed assignment, quiz, or test will not be accepted for credit.

Suspensions

·         As per school policy, any assignment, quiz, or test that is missed during a first suspension offense may be made up for full credit.  However, any missed assignment must be turned in immediately upon return or else it will be considered late and as such will be marked as half credit.

·         A per school policy, any assignment, quiz, or test that is missed during a second suspension offense will not be accepted for credit.

Website, Class Calendar and Absences:

·         I will maintain a website that will include rules and expectations, links, class syllabus, selected assignments/notes/readings, grades, and a month-by-month calendar.

·         Students are responsible for finding out what materials were covered in class during an absence. This should be done by checking the posted class calendars/website, or meeting with me during a teacher-planning period or before or after school.  Do not use the beginning of class to ask me what you missed.

·         Students who are absent the day of a test or quiz will be required to take the missed test upon their return. The exception is students who have been absent one or more days prior to the test.

Discipline Plan and Rules

·         Although you are responsible for compliance with all rules within the student handbook, I feel obliged to stress the following rules:

o    Be on time (three tardies equals a teacher detention).

o    Do not speak when I am conducting class. Raise your hand to be recognized.

o    Respect the rights of others to present their opinions in class.

o    No electronic devices (ipods, cell phones, etc.)

o    No food or pop in class.

o    Sit in you assigned seat and do not mill around the door at the end of class.

o    Come prepared for class (I do book checks).

o    Don’t vandalize or litter the room.

·         All violations of classroom rules will result in documentation in the discipline log.  Following are the graduated consequences for repeated violations of classroom rules:

o    Student-teacher conference

o    Teacher detention

o    Parent contact

o    Parent contact and office detention

o    Office referral (extended day or suspension)

·         The exception to the above sequence are infractions of school rules outlined within the student handbook that merit immediate and severe punishment.

·         Teacher detentions will be served before school in a class and at a specific time to be determined. The length will be fifteen minutes.  Students will have two days to serve a teacher detention. Failure to serve a teacher detention will result in the issuance an office detention.
