Progressbook FAQ's

Question from LBMS teacher:  I have discovered today one student whose 2nd quarter grade should be different from what it shows on her report card.  Who do I notify about this to correct my error?

Answer:     First, you will need to either

1)    exclude the student from a 2nd quarter assignment, or

2)    change a grade on a 2nd quarter grade book or

3)    add a 2nd quarter assignment called “Effort” or “Extra Credit” to provide enough points to change the student’s average grade.

Then, Sharon Didion is the contact to modify the report card grade, save it to eSIS through ProgressBook, contact LEECA to run the utility, and then print a new report card.

How do you edit the names of the students?

Answer: You can't.  At least, in Progressbook. The information you're seeing is what's in LEECA/eSIS. If there are student names misspelled, contact your building eSIS person

How do you permanently delete phantom students, and not just hide them on the roster?

Answer: Any changes like withdrawals don't get 'deleted' and you will see them all year unless you 'hide' them

WhWhy do “SQ1, SQ2, QQ3, SQ3, QQ4, SQ4, and +” not follow a pattern that makes sense to me? I don’t get it.

Answer:   Updated 9-11-08 From Renee - Reporting Period Naming:  I simplified the naming of the quarters.  You should now all see either Q1 through Q4 for a year long class,  Q1 and Q2 for a semester long class, or only Q1 for a quarter class.  I also helped Bay to figure out their Reporting Periods, which seems to be a problem plaguing many LEECA districts.  If you are seeing extra quarters for any of your classes, please email me your class name so that I can correct this!

How do Parkside teachers put in grades for an assignment?

Answer:    From Renee - When they create the assignment, they select what they want the points to count towards.  For example:  Reading 5 – They will need to check Achievement for all assignments (as this is their overall grade).  Then they can check the Report Card areas that this assignment will apply to (say, Reading Process – Develops and applies strategies to. . .).

When the grades are calculated, it will total up the points and figure a percentage for each category.  Achievement will be figured on every assignment.  However, say 5 of 10 assignments apply to the Reading Process only.  Those 5 will be averaged to find a percentage.  Then, in the back end table, the all-assignment average will be assigned a letter grade for Achievement (A, B, C, N), and each of the Standards will be averaged and assigned a number for the Standards (3, 2, 1).  Here are the percentage tables.

Mark just changed the Achievement to this:

                A:  90.0 – 110.0B:  80.0 – 89.9

                C:  70.0 – 79.9

                N:  0.0 – 69.9

I set the Standards to this, in trying to reflect the 1 to be similar to the N and equally divided up the 3 and 2:

                3:  85.0 – 110.0

                2:  70.0 – 84.99

                1:   0.0 – 69.99

Where can I see attendance?

Answer: Dashboard is for Daily Attendance.  Period attendance can be obtained through the reports section.

What do I do if I travel from one school to another?

Answer: Teachers Traveling Between Standards-Based vs. Traditional Report Card Buildings:  While a bit confusing, it is possible.  You need to Set Up Grading Scales for EACH class.  At the end of the setup, while you can copy the configuration to the other classes within the same building, you’ll need to set it up separately for each building.  If you need any assistance with this, I will be available and will clarify with Kurt, Albie and the other PB Implementation Specialists.
