Basic Saving Procedures


 

Description: If you're one of those that goes to File /Save-as and then clicks the Save button as your normal routine to save files, you're also probably one of those that either can't ever find your files, or you lose your files.

Using correct saving procedures is probably the most tremendously important skill a person uses when working with computers.  Below are 4 basic steps that can keep your hair from going gray.

  Start the saving process immediately after you open a new file.  It really doesn't matter what program you're using - Word, PowerPoint, Excel - start the saving process even before you begin typing.

 

 
On the toolbar, click the Although this looks like it might mean saving to a floppy disc, it's just a symbol for the saving process that is nearly universal throughout most Windows programs.

Notice that since this is the first time you've saved the file, the dialog box appears.  The computer needs to know where to save the file and what the name needs to be.

 

At the bottom of the dialog box,
Type in a filename.

 

 

At the top, in the Save in: box, click in the box and
'Navigate' to the directory or folder into which you want to place the file.
