The following is a guide to help you
begin locating resources for the activities in this project.
Under each
activity will be a list of books, URL’s, and on-line resources. Here is the key to the type of resource:
--means this is a book in the Burneson
library
--means this is an Internet website
--means an online resource such as magazine articles or e-books
All books
are in the Burneson library on reserve. This means they are in the library for you to
use during the day, and can be checked out overnight.

4. Report on one event from the period
of the Holocaust and research how that event was reported in the American

infectious diseases common in the concentration camps. How did it spread? What were its symptoms? How was it treated? What was the mortality rate of the disease?

6. Besides the Holocaust of WW II, detail
another example of “ethnic cleansing” or genocide. When did it happen? Who was targeted? Who were the aggressors? Where did it happen? How many people were affected? Include 2 photos. Writing must be one full page.
Try
searching these topics on the Internet: Turks/Armenians; Cambodia/Pol Pot; Albanians/Kosovo; Rwanda;
Bosnian Serbs/Croats; Stalin; Hutu & Tutsi; Darfur;
Saddam Hussein/Kurds. For search
terms add+genocide
to the topic.

COMPLETE TWO (2) ACTIVITIES FROM THE
CATEGORIES BELOW:
1. Make a board game based on the details of the
book. Must include a game board, playing
pieces, rules, and be colorfully packaged.

2. Write an original song (instrumental
or with lyrics) expressing the mood of being a victim of ethnic cleansing. Must be a minimum of 1minute 30 seconds, and a maximum of 5
minutes. It may be performed live or
prerecorded.

3. Create a 2’ (two foot) long mural,
using the school’s roll paper, expressing a scene that uses the themes and
symbols of the Holocaust.

information. Make sure you choose symbols from the Holocaust,

4. Research (provide 2 sources) and with
you as the teacher, dressed in traditional garb, teach the class a folk dance
of Eastern Europe.

5. Make a collage of at least
20 images that show intolerance or hatred in today’s world.
