The objective of this activity is to design your own Summer Reading list. It’s not a “have-to” list; it’s a “want-to” list. In an effort to support you as life long readers, Mrs. Pettyjohn, Ms.Fo and I are giving you the gift of time and guidance.
FIRST 1) Read a review of two books you’ve already read. 2) Note who wrote the review then agree or disagree in a 5-7 sentence paragraph.
SECOND 1) Have fun reading reviews online. You can do this independently and quietly. 2) Make a list of books (including the author) that tickle your fancy. 3) Next to the title and author, jot down why the review interested you. Copy some phrases that caught your attention. THIRD 1) Have more fun reading reviews IN PRINT. 2) Add two more titles, authors and comments to your list. FINALLY 1) Write a metacognitive paragraph. What captivates you about a book? q How is it that you finally choose what you will read? q Do reviews, generally, help you choose or do you have another method? 2) Write a review of a book you really enjoyed. 3) Write a review of a book that you would not recommend to others. Include in this review your reasons for when and why to stop reading a book.
