COLONIAL SCAVENGER HUNT

You will be going to various sites to answer questions pertaining to the early Colonial period in U.S. history. 

 

1.Before Jamestown and Plymouth Colony, there was the Lost Colony in Roanoke, VA.  One of America’s most perplexing mysteries is:  What happened to the colonists in Roanoke? 2.When 104 men landed in Virginia in 1607, they named the place Jamestown.  This was the first permanent English settlement in the New World.

Take a look at the list of the original early Jamestown settlers and their occupations.

 Note the spelling of some of the occupations.  List the occupations of the early settlers. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Now look at the list of settlers for January 1608 (First Supply).   Are there new occupations now? Go to Gale Virtual Reference Library.  This is an online set of e-books the library receives  to help you in locating valid information on many topics. 

On the Search line type in Pocahontas.  Go to the entry from Colonial America Reference Library.

READ and answer these questions:

a.     In the first paragraph it states “Pocahontas decisively influenced the course of English settlement in the New World.” Read the rest of that paragraph and answer why she is criticized by Native Americans for what she did:
