FIRST AID WEBQUEST
A car traveling at high speed suddenly crashes. Its passengers
are thrown from the car. The first victim is rendered unconscious; the second
is cut badly; the third is choking on a Chalupa from
Taco Bell; and the fourth person is on fire. All are injured and need your
help. Will you complete this quest in time to save them?
Your team of four
volunteers has been called in to help rescue victims involved in a car crash. You
must determine what is wrong with the patients, and research the information
needed to save their lives. You must examine the victims and compile the
information, and the first aid needed to help them.
To
successfully complete this Quest you will need to work cooperatively in groups
of four. Each student in the group will need to assume one of the four roles:
Role 1: Choking expert: Research
information on how to recognize someone is choking, and the procedure to save
them.
Role 2: CPR Expert: Research information
on CPR, be able to identify people in need of CPR, and
the steps involved.
Role 3: Bleeding Expert: Research
information on lacerations and severe bleeding, recognize persons in need of
help, and be able to give immediate emergency first aid.
Role 4: Burn Expert: Research information
on burns. Know how to treat a burn, and how to treat someone on fire (what to do, and not
to do).
1.
In teams of four decide who will become an expert in each of these areas:
Choking, CPR, Bleeding, and Burns.
2.
View the videos of the accident victims.
3.
Click on related links to retrieve information about a particular injury.
4.
Compile information from your four experts into a first aid packet. Include each person’s emergency
phone chart, your group’s list of items for your first aid kit, each expert’s
worksheet, and a ten question quiz based on material from the task above.
1.
View the video clips of the accident victims by clicking the links below.

Go to the worksheet for your area of specialty by clicking on the link below.
Then print out the worksheet.
3.
Explore the links located below to gain knowledge and build an expertise in
Choking, CPR, Bleeding, and Burns according to your area of specialty. Use
these links to answer the questions on your worksheet.
4.
Each person should print off and fill out a “FAMILY EMERGENCY PHONE CHART”.
Note: the Medical Problems and Medications columns are optional.
5.
As a group gather information from an internet search and compile a list of
items that should be included in any First Aid kit.
6.
As a group create a ten question, ten point, quiz that
you can administer to your classmates. Must be typed.
Students
will be evaluated based on the content of their first aid packet. The
total number of points for the first aid quest is 40 points. Ten
individual points for your phone chart, ten individual points for your expert
worksheet, ten group points for the list of items included in a first aid kit,
and ten group points for the ten question quiz.
